JWTA Healthcare Services

JWTA's experience has included successful assignments as Architect, Project Manager, and Owner's Representative on large complex hospital construction projects. In those roles JWTA has been responsible for the design, engineering, and construction of most building types common in the Health Care industry today.

As the Director of Development for a major Southern California medical center. Mr. Tompkins responsibilities called for the coordination of architects, contractors, and hospital staff to insure successful completion of seventeen complex construction projects.

His qualifications as an OSHPD inspector provides a resource in support of the plan check and inspection approval process. His understanding of the codes and the state approval process helps to avoid costly delays in interim approvals and final occupancy. Because of the recent changes in the responsibilities of OSHPD, his knowledge of their new procedures and the changes in their personnel will prove valuable in resolving construction issues.

 

SELECTED PROJECTS

Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center Backfill Projects, Fontana, California: Program management services for the phased construction of up to sixty department relocation projects. The space will be vacated by the departments moving into the Primary Care Center Project. The program management services included the setup and management of the cost control system, scheduling, and Issue tracking. The estimated project cost is $15,400,000 and involves the renovation of over 75,000 SF of Type I construction.

Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center, Program Management for the comprehensive building program of the 400 bed Medical Center. The program included direction of all new construction projects on the 50 acre campus, including a 150-bed Regional Care Center, an Open- Heart operating suite, a Neonatal ICU Unit, two Cardiac Cath Laboratories, a Day-Care center, a Magnetic Resonance Imaging facility, and a Labor Delivery Post Partum suite (LDRP). Key program activities included Owner's Representation, Program Budgeting and Scheduling, Cashflow projections, Consultant and Contractor Proposal Evaluation and Award, Entitlements and Agency Approvals, Purchasing and Installation of Owner Purchased furniture and equipment.

Kingman Regional Medical Center, Kingman, Arizona: Project management services were provided for all design, engineering, and construction administration for the expansion and renovation of an existing 60,000 SF acute care hospital. The scope of the project included a new 60 bed patient tower, a new Emergency / Trauma department, multiple Outpatient Clinics, as well as new Intensive Care and Cardiac Care Nursing Units. The schedule of the project was planned to allow for a phased construction sequence of over 20 different departments under the additional burden of removing asbestos building products prior to the start of each phase. The total cost for the 132,000 SF project is $15,000,000.

Antelope Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Lancaster, California: Project management for the design, engineering and construction of the five story 96 bed patient tower addition. The project included a four phased construction schedule consisting of a new Clinical Laboratory and an Emergency / Trauma department on the ground floor with two floors of patient nursing rooms all completed in the initial phase of construction. The second phase of construction included an 8 bed LDR suite with new delivery and C-section rooms. Due in part to the success of the first two phases of construction, Phase three and four were accelerated and completed ahead of schedule. Phase three included the completion of the final two floors of patient rooms and a new Special Procedures room. Concurrent with the primary project schedule were a series of small projects that had to be identified, designed, plan checked, and constructed to support the critical path of the primary project. These smaller projects included upgrades to the Dietary department, the addition of two new elevator towers, relocation and upgrade of the hospitals' ETO disposal system.

Comprehensive Care Corporation, Irvine, California: Conducted site location and feasibility studies, Certificate of Need, marketing, planning and schematic design services for seventeen Chemical Dependency Recovery Hospitals.

Comprehensive Care Corporation, San Diego, California: Project management for all design, engineering and construction administration services for the expansion and renovation of an existing 40,000 SF acute care hospital. The scope of the project included the conversion from general acute care to Psychiatric and Chemical Dependency Rehabilitation Hospital. The 60-bed facility required planning, schematic and final design as well as project management services.

Brea Neuropsychiatric Institute, Brea, California: Project management for all planning and design services for the phased replacement of an existing 60,000 SF psychiatric hospital. The scope of the project included the development of phased construction elements that would allow for the continuing operation of the existing hospital.

University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center, Los Angeles, California: Renovation of kitchen and cafeteria facilities. Services included planning design and coordination of food service plans and specifications.

Simi Valley Adventist Hospital, Simi Valley, California: Project Manager for the renovation of 115-bed acute care hospital. Services included planning, programming and design, and Certificate of Need preparation.

Auburn Faith Community Hospital, Auburn, California: Project Manager for hospital expansion and renovation, providing planning, Certificate for Need and design services. Included were strategic planning and marketing and preliminary design services for 50,000 SF addition and remodeling of existing facilities.

Baptist Hospital and Health Systems, Phoenix, Arizona: Planning, schematic design and Certificate of Need services for major renovation and expansion of a 230 bed acute care existing facility, including two patient towers, Radiology, Surgery and other support services. Also included were planning, design and construction services for renovation of a free standing MRI facility.

San Bernardino Community Hospital, San Bernardino, California: Master Planning, schematic design, and Certificate of Need services for a 322 bed replacement hospital.

Santa Ynez Valley Hospital, Solvang, California: Planning, Design and project services for a 56,000 SF ICU expansion of existing hospital.

McCuiston Regional Medical Center, Paris, Texas: Strategic Planning, schematic design, and marketing services for a 179 bed acute care hospital for Outpatient Surgery, Emergency, and Diagnostic services.

Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, Cleveland, Ohio: Planning, design, engineering and construction services for building renovation to provide 85 Obstetric and Gynecology beds, Administrative offices and Psychiatric services.

Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Los Angeles, California: Design, engineering and construction support services for a 150,000 SF Pharmaceutical and General Store distribution center.

Fontana Medical Center, Fontana, California: Master Planning, Preliminary design and Certificate of Need services for a new 99 bed acute care hospital.

Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center, Fontana, California: Project Budget Management services for a new 800 car parking structure.

Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio: Design, engineering and project management services for four projects, including a new parking structure, remodeling of offices, Radiology, Surgery, Physical Therapy, and employee facilities.

Fairmount Health Center, Willoughby, Ohio: Design, engineering and management services for a 44,500 SF long term care facility.

Stone County Hospital, Stone County, Mississippi: Designer for a 60 bed general acute care county hospital.

St. John's Hospital, Dayton, Ohio: Project Coordinator for remodeling and expansion of a 120 bed general acute care hospital.

South Macomb Hospital, Warren, Michigan: Designer for a 404 bed hospital. Provided planning, design, engineering, and construction services for a 200 bed patient tower, Dietary, Central Supply, Surgery, and other hospital services

Euclid Clinic Center and Doctors' Offices, Euclid, Ohio: Project Coordinator for site master planning, design, engineering and construction of a 51,000 SF addition of Physicians' offices, Diagnostic and treatment spaces, a Renal Dialysis unit, Physical Therapy and a multiphase screening and testing department. Also included were additions to the Obstetrics and Educational facilities.

St. Jerome’s Hospital and Doctors' Office Building, Batavia, New York: Project Coordinator for functional programming, master planning, design, engineering and construction services for an addition and renovation in a 135 bed hospital.

Marymount Hospital, Garfield Heights, Ohio: Master planning, design, field engineering and construction services for the expansion of a 279 bed acute care hospital.
